Today, November 5, 2012, is our 1 year anniversary of owning our own farm!
What could be more special than compiling years and years of 2 people’s dreams, aspirations, and idealism and turning that into the design and creation of a sweet little farm? We love it here! This past year has been the best one so far in our lives and we look forward to the future. That is a pretty amazing part about farming….the constant need to be in the present while thinking of the future. And by the future, I mean the next task of the day, the next week, the next season, the next generation…I mean the future when the Black Walnut seeds we’re planting now will grow up to be huge trees when we’re long gone.
When we look through our pictures, we can see that we’ve changed this little piece of land quite a bit.
We also feel like we’ve barely started. There are so many things we still want to do (will there be time enough in our lives to do them all? Probably not…). We have so many dreams for the health of our soils and all the micro-organisms that live within it, dreams for the woods around our farm, dreams to enhance the biodiversity, dreams to husband diverse livestock, dreams to become more self-sufficient, dreams to connect more with our community….and dreams to do what we are currently doing but much better.
We have learned so much this past year and are so excited to continue learning. We are so grateful for all the support and enthusiasm from others.
Reflections:
Having good neighbours make all the difference. We’ve been blessed to have neighbours to help and support us to get up and running.
Abundance is everywhere! It was amazing to discover tasty apples, wild blueberries, Saskatoon (shad, around these parts) berries, sweet fern and other herbs around the property!
