Market Food Club
Hey friends! We’re getting so close to coming back to market! It’s March now … sometime in April is when we plan to start back at the Dieppe Market for the year. That means…..it’s time to sign up for our 2018 Market Food Club! Our Market Food Club is a great way to: support us as your local farmers have the flexibility to choose which vegetables, flowers, herbs, seedlings, and seeds you want and will actually use and to pre-pay (which means you don’t need to bring cash to market) We are grateful for the relationship-building effect of our […]

Food connects us. The food we eat nourishes each cell of our bodies – that’s what inspires us every day – to grow food with our primary value of Health. Health for every person who eats our food, health for ourselves, health for every other living creature (from the tiniest microbes in the soil to the eagles who swoop above us), health for the air and water, and all those downstream of us – for many generations down the line. Health for families, […]

Mission and Goals of the Broadfork Farmers We want to save the world. Transform the food system. Increase the health of people. Protect all the other species on this planet. Build soil for future generations. We do this by being farmers. By stewarding the land. By farming organically. We add nutrients to our soil that are needed for healthy human beings, not just growing plants. We seek out the coolest, most delicious varieties we can find from many seed sources – this isn’t what you’ll find in any grocery store. We use our knowledge of cooking, nutrition, and ecology to […]

Who is your Farmer?

Every province and region in Canada is unique. I’ve been so lucky to develop friendships with fellow farmers from across the country. And there are some pretty cool things happening everywhere! But one province that has always stuck out for me in terms of agriculture, specifically organic agriculture, has been Quebec. Quebec enjoys beautiful farmland, inspiring farmers, some interesting governmental support programs for farmers, and Equiterre. Equiterre is an environmental organization and one of the things they want to see is more local, organic food. In particular, community members to have a personal connection to the farm and farmers who […]

Who’s your dentist? Who’s your accountant? WHO’S YOUR FARMER? We are blessed with such wonderful and inspiring farmers in our region (though we still need more with the average age of farmers close to 60). We strongly recommend everyone get to know them through both in-person and online connections (farm websites and blogs, farm facebook or twitter pages). An impressive trend in the food movement has been for eaters to connect directly with local farmers. These connections have served to both empower farmers in the management of their livelihoods and to empower people in the nourishment of their bodies. One of the […]

Last Monday, Lucia from ACORN organized a farm tour of two wonderful and inspiring (and very different) farms. Grow a Farmer apprentices from our farm, Windy Hill Farm, and Taproot Farms took part in the tour as well as other aspiring and new farmers. Bryan and I take our professional development as farmers very seriously and try to prioritize visits to other farms as well as attending farming conferences and workshops. Since this was a long day away from the farm only one of us could go. I (Shannon) went on this farm tour and Bryan will go on the […]
